This notice explains what personal data FuelHop collects, why, and what your rights are. We've tried to keep it plain and honest. If anything is unclear, email info@fuelhop.co.uk.

Who we are

FuelHop (fuelhop.co.uk) is operated by John Rooney, a sole trader based in the Republic of Ireland. For the purposes of the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, John Rooney is the data controller responsible for your personal data.

FuelHop serves users in the United Kingdom, and personal data is processed in Ireland and the EU. As Ireland is within the European Economic Area, this data is protected under the same GDPR standards that apply in the UK.

The free "near me" search

You do not need an account, an email address, or any sign-up to search for fuel prices near you.

• Location: if you use the "near me" feature, your device asks for permission to access your location. This is used to find the fuel stations nearest to you. Your location is used only to serve your search and is not used to build a profile of you or shared with third parties for marketing.
• Fuel prices: the prices shown come from the UK Government's official Fuel Finder open-data scheme. This is public data about fuel stations and is not personal data about you.
• Server logs: like almost all websites, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information (such as IP address, browser type, and the time of a request) for a limited period. This is used for security, to keep the service running, and to diagnose faults. We do not use it to identify individual users.

RouteHop (the paid feature)

RouteHop is an optional paid feature that finds the cheapest fuel along a driving route. Because it involves a payment, it necessarily collects a small amount of personal data:

• Email address: we collect your email address so we can confirm your purchase and unlock the feature for you. It is stored in our database (hosted by Supabase) against your purchase record.
• Payment: payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered directly with Stripe and are never seen by or stored on our servers. We receive only confirmation of payment and the information needed to link it to your unlock.
• Route information: the start and end points you enter for a route are sent to Google's Directions and Places services to calculate the route and find stations along it. These are used to answer your request and are not stored by us against your identity.

Who processes your data for us

We use a small number of trusted service providers ("processors") to run FuelHop:

• Vercel — website and application hosting (servers located in London).
• Supabase — stores RouteHop purchase records (email and unlock status).
• Stripe — processes payments securely.
• Google — provides mapping, directions, and place search for RouteHop.

Each of these providers processes data on our behalf under their own data-protection terms.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how many people visit FuelHop and which pages they use. This is privacy-friendly and does not use tracking cookies or collect information that identifies you personally.

Legal basis for processing

• To provide the free search and run the site securely — our legitimate interest in operating and protecting the service.
• To provide RouteHop — performance of a contract with you (delivering the paid feature you have bought).
• Location access — your consent, given when your browser asks permission. You can withdraw it at any time in your browser or device settings.

How long we keep data

Purchase records (email and unlock status) are kept for as long as needed to provide the feature you've paid for and to meet any legal or accounting obligations. Technical server logs are kept only for a short period. We do not keep personal data longer than necessary.

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to:

• ask what personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it;
• ask us to correct data that is wrong;
• ask us to delete your data ("right to erasure");
• object to or restrict how we use it;
• withdraw consent (such as location access) at any time.

Changes to this notice

We may update this notice as FuelHop develops. The "last updated" date at the top shows when it last changed.
